How to Apply

Admission Standards for Part-Time Professional MBA

The Admissions Committee will review and evaluate prior academic performance, leadership experience, professional experience, aptitude for graduate study, general motivation, and managerial attributes based on the admission standards set by the College of Business and Economics for the graduate business programs.  All applicants must satisfy the admissions criteria and successfully complete the admissions procedures before an eligibility for admission decision will be made.

Admission Criteria

  • Requirements

    • Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and must have at least two years of significant, full-time management experience showing management of people, budgets, or customer accounts, or professional experience such as a licensed Professional Engineer or CPA.
  • Deadline

    • Due to high demand for the Professional MBA program, it is recommended that applicants submit all required application materials no later than April 15 in order to be considered for the Fall 2019 cohort.  Applications which are not complete by April 15 will be considered on a space-available basis and may be deferred admittance until Fall 2020. Applications are reviewed and decisions are made on a rolling basis.

  • GMAT or GRE Test Scores

    • GMAT: Ideal candidate will have a minimum score of 500
    • GRE: Ideal candidate will have a minimum score of 147 Verbal /148 Quantitative
    • Test scores should be sent to Boise State University’s code: 4018

    • Scores Waiver
      • We may waive the GMAT/GRE requirement for applicants with three years of significant management experience and a minimum 3.0 GPA in their undergraduate career, or who already possess a master’s or doctoral level degree. Students indicate on the application if they believe they qualify for a waiver. The decision is made at time of admission. If you would like to request an earlier review to see if you will qualify, please email with a description of your work experience and your undergraduate GPA.
  • International Students

    • In order to be admitted as an international student, you must already possess a valid Visa that allows study in the United States
    • This program is not eligible to grant student Visas to international students.
    • International students already possessing a valid Visa that allows study in the United States must complete the TOEFL exam with a score of 587/240/95 or IELTS score of 6.5 or better. They may be asked to provide a statement of adequate funding and certified English translations of transcripts. Details at the Department of Admissions International Students page.
  • Resume

    • A current detailed resume highlighting your professional work experience. Do not be concerned with brevity. Please include start and end dates (month and year) for each position held, and indicate full- or part time. Professional MBA students must have at least two years of full-time management or professional work experience where you have managed either people, budgets, or customer accounts beyond a basic supervisory level.
  • Essays

    • Two essays are required. Please answer the following questions.
      • Required:
        • 1) Tell us about a time when you tried to reach a goal or a task that was challenging, difficult, or frustrating. What did you learn from the experience? (maximum 500 words)
        • 2) Each of our applicants is unique. Describe how your background, values, work experience, and/or leadership skills influenced your career goals. How will your goals be furthered by an MBA degree? (maximum 750 words)
      • Optional:
        • Is there anything you would like to share with the MBA Admissions Committee in considering your application?
      • Required for re-applicants who have been previously denied:
        • Since your previous application, what are the steps you’ve taken to strengthen your candidacy? (maximum 500 words)
  • Recommendations

    • Two completed Recommendation Forms. These forms are to be completed by a person who has been your direct supervisor in a professional setting or your professor in an academic setting. You may designate your recommenders in the online application or give the form to your recommender to submit directly to us, via email:
  • Interview

    • Once all of your application materials have been processed, we will contact you within a week to schedule your in-person interview.
