Department of Marketing

Micron Business and Economics Building

Welcome to the Department of Marketing

The Department of Marketing offers courses leading to an undergraduate degree or minor in marketing. Marketing majors take a general program of study that includes customer behavior, marketing research, marketing planning, and professional selling.

The goal of the Department of Marketing is to prepare students for careers in today’s business world or for graduate school by helping students develop fundamental knowledge and skills in marketing. The curriculum for this major addresses current business trends and the developing global economy through such courses as international marketing and occasional special topics courses. Students gain practical experience through internships at local companies and case studies in marketing courses. These activities teach students to identify and solve business problems typical of today’s rapidly changing business environment.

Advertising Competition

Marketing students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in two consecutively sequenced Advertising Agency Management classes. Each year the American Advertising Federation (AAF) sponsors a competition for member schools across the nation. Students team with graphic design students to create a promotional and advertising campaign for a nationally known product the AAF has chosen. During the spring semester, students present their findings before advertising agency executives at a regional competition, from which one school advances to the national finals.  Boise State teams have placed in the top three at the regional competition several times, including a first place finish.

Internship Program

The Department of Marketing has a well-developed marketing internship program that provides students the opportunity to earn college credit while performing marketing-related activities for local non-profit and for-profit businesses. Students who participate in internships not only gain valuable work experience, but also make professional contacts that may lead to employment after graduation. Find more information about internships on the Marketing Internship page.

Whether you are an undergraduate, graduate or prospective student, we invite you to stop by the department, e-mail us, or give us a call with any questions you may have.
