Computer Recommendations:

The ITM and SCM programs each teach a variety of technical concepts that require, or are supported by, specialized software.  Boise State University provides computers in labs across campus that have the required software installed.  We also encourage students to utilize their own computers and laptops in our courses.  While we provide access to the necessary software, via download links, licenses, and detailed instructions, students are responsible for installing and configuring the software on their own machines.

If you are considering the purchase of a computer or laptop, the ITM/SCM department makes the following recommendations for your academic computing technology:

According to the Boise State University Office of Information Technology (OIT) department, the following are the recommended minimum requirements for computers:

Windows Minimum Hardware and OS:

  • 3rd generation Intel i5 or better processor
  • 8 GB of memory
  • 512 GB HDD or SSD
  • Windows 7, 8.1, or 10

Various courses in ITM and SCM require specialized software that are only compatible with Windows-based PC computers.  While we recommend students have access to a PC running Windows, the ITM/SCM department can provide licenses and the necessary software for students to install Windows on a Mac, provided it meets the following minimum requirements.

Mac Minimum Hardware and OS:

  • 3rd generation Intel i5 or better processor
  • 8 GB of memory
  • 512 GB HDD or SSD
  • Apple macOS 10.10 or Above
