David M. Cooper graduated from Boise State University in 1971 with a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting. He received his license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Idaho in 1974 and in Nevada in 1981. He was further certified as a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) by the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts in 1994. In 2014, Dave received the Certificate in Private Capital Markets (CPCM) from Pepperdine Graziadio School of Business and Management.
After graduation, Dave worked for the IRS gaining experience and knowledge in the field of business taxation. He later joined a regional accounting firm, which today is known as Cooper Norman, and has served as its Managing Partner for twenty years. During Dave’s association with Cooper Norman, the firm grew to a full-service accounting firm and from one office (and 12 people) in Twin Falls to three Idaho offices (and 90 people). Dave sold his interest in Cooper Norman in 2009.
Today, with more than 40 years of experience, Dave works full-time as a trusted, independent business advisor providing business valuation services and part-time CFO services to private business owners in the western United States. His specialty niche is helping private business owners establish and maintain demand-driven markets for key employee ownership following his True Corporate Model™ concept.
For more than thirty years, Dave has owned part interest in and helped manage several Idaho businesses. Four of his present holdings are private equity interests in: Pets Best Insurance, LLC, the nation’s 4th largest pet health insurance company headquartered in Boise (www.petsbest.com); Intelligent Employment Solutions, LLC (IES), a regional temp agency with offices in Idaho and Utah (www.employ-solutions.com ); Snake River Pool & Spa of Idaho, LLC (SRP&S), a retail hot tub, swim spa and game table store located in Boise and Twin Falls (www.thespateam.com); and The Franklin at Ten Mile, a 358 unit apartment project in Meridian (www.thefranklinattenmile.com). Dave is the CFO and a board director of all four companies. Pets Best, IES and SRP&S use the True Corporate Model™ concept to enhance returns to their private equity holders.
Subordinate only to family, Dave’s two nonbusiness passions are affordable housing and affordable public education. He believes both of these unique American opportunities cause life, freedom and economic success here to surpass those of any other country in the world. Following his passion for affordable housing, Dave was appointed by three Idaho governors to serve as a commissioner and board chairman of the Idaho Housing and Finance Association. Following his passion for affordable public education, Dave has consistently and regularly volunteered with Boise State’s Department of Accountancy and the College of Business and Economics.
