The organization is one of 12 SBDC programs nationwide to achieve this designation. It recognizes the organization’s competencies in coaching and consulting with entrepreneurs and small business owners throughout the state who have technology or innovation as a core competitive advantage.
The competencies include assistance with commercialization, intellectual property, alternative financing, research and development funding, and referral resources.
The Idaho SBDC received a commendation for the vision of former State Director Jim Hogge in creating the Technology and Entrepreneurial Center (TECenter), a business accelerator and incubator in Nampa that is part of the Idaho SBDC network.
The TECenter also was one of 50 winners out of 800 accelerators or incubators nationwide that competed for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Accelerator Competition. The TECenter received $50,000.
An accreditation team, which included state directors of the Pennsylvania and Utah SBDC programs, spent four days in Idaho reviewing the Idaho SBDC’s operations. The team reviewed the program against seven quality standards plus additional requirements for the technology accreditation.
Accreditation occurs every five years to ensure that SBDCs nationwide are providing quality services to help entrepreneurs and small business owners grow and thrive.
The Idaho SBDC is a statewide, university-based program that has been helping small businesses succeed since 1986. Boise State University is the host for this partnership among the U.S. Small Business Administration, the state of Idaho and Idaho’s colleges and universities. Expert coaching and consulting is available for no cost to Idaho’s small businesses and startup companies.
Statistics by a third-party researcher show that Idaho SBDC clients consistently outperform the average Idaho business, with sales growing more than six times the sales of their competitors. The return on investment – the cost of the program versus the benefits of the increased growth – is 4:1.
