How to Apply

Admission Standards for Part-Time Professional MBA

All applicants must satisfy the admissions criteria and successfully complete the admissions procedures before an eligibility for admission decision will be made. The Admissions Committee will review and evaluate prior academic performance, leadership experience, professional experience, aptitude for graduate study, general motivation, and managerial attributes based on the admission standards set by the College of Business and Economics for the graduate business programs.

  • Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Foreign students must complete the TOEFL exam with a score of 587/240/95 or IELTS score of 6.5 or better. Foreign students must also provide a statement of adequate funding and certified English translations of transcripts. They may be asked to take an English proficiency exam at Boise State University. Additional Requirements

  • A current detailed resume highlighting your professional work experience. Do not be concerned with brevity. Please include start and end dates (month and year) for each position held, and indicate full- or part time. Professional MBA students are expected to have at least two years of full-time professional work experience. Include names and contact information of 2 additional references.
  • Please answer the following questions. Essay responses should be double-spaced.

Required:
1) Tell us about a time when you tried to reach a goal or a task that was challenging, difficult, or frustrating. What did you learn from the experience?  (maximum  500 words)
2) Each of our applicants is unique.  Describe how your background, values, work experience, and/or leadership skills influenced your career goals. How will your goals be furthered by an MBA degree? (maximum 750 words)

Since your previous application, what are the steps you’ve taken to strengthen your candidacy?

  • Two completed Recommendation forms – Working Professional MBA: These forms are to be completed by a person who has been your direct supervisor in a professional setting or your professor in an academic setting.
  • Evaluative Interview
    The evaluative interview provides an opportunity for the Admissions Committee to further evaluate an applicant’s level of maturity, interpersonal skills, career focus and motivation. After all application materials have been submitted, make an appointment with the Professional MBA Director to schedule your evaluative interview (interview must be completed before May 20).
