Components of an IB Degree

Language proficiency:

Students choose a language (Arabic, Basque, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, or Turkish). They must complete three advanced level courses, including intermediate language (201-202 level) and a business language course.

Social science component:

Students must complete two introductory courses.
(1) International Relations
(2) History of Western or Eastern Civilization (depending on language).

Students are also required to complete an upper division (300+ level) history course and political science course that reflects the culture of their language emphasis.

International business core:

Students must complete these six IB courses.

  • Managing in a Global Economy
  • International Economics
  • International Finance
  • International Management
  • International Marketing
  • Importing and Exporting Procedures or Trade and Investment Law

International business career experience:

This may be an internship (150 hours), a special course (typically, a study abroad program), or an independent study.

Business focus area:

Students choose one minor area, with four courses in each:

  • Entrepreneurship
  • Marketing
  • Finance
  • Economics
  • Human Resource Management
