COBE International Business Department

A Message from the Director

Newspaper headlines are a daily reminder of how interconnected our world has become. As a result of globalization, an international perspective and an understanding of global issues have evolved from important to essential parts of modern business. In the past two decades globalization has created a business environment in which the static business model has been rendered irrelevant. This dynamic reality has forced companies to reinvent in order to manage the risks of global competition and take advantage of new opportunities. Those committed to developing an international business dimension to their operations have been increasingly able to thrive and succeed in this environment of constant change.

In addressing this reality, the International Business Department strengthens the College of Business and Economics’ credibility as a 21st century institution. As international business competencies have become obligatory at all managerial levels, the IB Department has focused on ensuring the availability of a globally-aware, skilled and knowledgeable labor force. The IB Department’s mission is to properly prepare students for today’s global complexities and to develop their ability to recognize the impact of politics, law, culture, and society on business both locally and internationally. The Department also aims to engage and serve the International Business needs of the Idaho business community.

Global innovations can have a positive domestic outcome only if properly studied and applied. The International Business Department’s balanced practical and theoretical approach plays an essential role in providing students with the necessary skills to help the local and national economies grow. The Department’s close relationships with its business community have created valuable local & international internship opportunities.  These collaborations have been instrumental in allowing students to complement their academic pursuits with practical, real-world experiences, and in enabling them to overcome the cultural, ethical, political, economic, & technological challenges they have yet to face.
