Financial Education from Wells Fargo and the Council for Economic Education:
Wells Fargo’s financial education program, Hands on Banking®/El futuro en tus manos®, teaches children, teens and adults with free, comprehensive money management skills. Wells Fargo employees contribute by teaching individuals and small businesses in partnership with nonprofits and schools and participating in workshops held by local chapters of Junior Achievement.
Wells Fargo also provides financial support for educational institutions throughout Idaho, particularly for programs promoting academic achievement for low- and moderate-income students in the areas of math, science and technology, financial literacy, and teacher training.
In 2007, Wells Fargo granted $10,000 to the Idaho Council on Economic Education to train 168 teachers across the state to provide financial and economic education to middle school students.
During the 2009 – 2010 school year, The Idaho Council and Wells Fargo proudly present monthly Financial Literacy training workshops and would like to invite all Idaho teachers and the general public. Specific dates, time and locations TBA.
This teacher training workshop conbines the best of three great financial literacy programs-1)The Classroom Mini-Economy, 2) Hands on Banking, and 3) The Stock Market Game-into an exciting 8 hour training experience for you You will gain immediate access to fun classroom activities, lessons, and ideas for teaching your students about managing money, saving, investing, and learning to live and work in today’s complex world.
Funding
Funding to cover the costs of materials, training and support provided to Idaho schools, teachers and students by the Idaho Council and its affiliated Centers comes from a variety of sources. Council personnel including the President and Operations Manager are employees of Boise State University and receive compensation through the university. Center Directors and personnel, likewise, are employees of their respective universities, which provide funding for their employment and benefits. The state of Idaho, through their regular annual budgeting process, provides approximately $54,000 per year to the Council through Boise State University in support of the educational programs offered by the Council and its Centers. Depending on budget availability, some Idaho schools and districts pay a small fee for teacher and student participation in educational programs. These fees are not sufficient to cover the costs of the programs provided by the Council and Centers to Idaho students and teachers. The Council regularly applies for and occasionally receives grants from the Council for Economic Education. The balance of funding required to cover the costs of materials, training and support for schools, teachers and students comes from corporations, foundations, and individual contributors like you.
