Governance & Organizational Overview

The Idaho Council is governed by its Board of Directors with additional oversight from the Idaho Department of Education and Boise State University. The current Chair, Bea Black, is the CEO of the Women’s and Children’s Alliance in Boise, ID. Many other prominent Idaho business and banking leaders have occupied the chairmanship over the last 35 years. Current board members include bankers, business owners and managers, educational administrators and community leaders. The Idaho Council is in good financial standing as attested by the independent auditors, Harris and Company of Boise, ID.

The Idaho Council on Economic Education was founded in 1971, with the participation of the University of Idaho, Boise State University, Idaho State University and several Idaho companies and financial institutions. Its purpose is to provide economic and financial literacy education to Idaho students and their teachers statewide. It accomplishes this by providing teacher development and training workshops for K-12 teachers and students.  The International Economic Summit is the flagship program of the Idaho Council. Other programs administered by the Idaho Council include the Stock Market Game, Financial Literacy Courses, High School Economics and others. The Idaho Council is affiliated with the National Council on Economic Education, based in New York. The National Council, guided by their acting President Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Peri, is known as the premier authority on economic education in the United States. The Idaho Council, based at Boise State University, also operates Centers for Economic Education at the University of Idaho, Idaho State University, and the College of Southern Idaho. The Idaho Council and its Centers cohesively strive to reach students and teachers in all regions and counties of the state.
