TWIN FALLS STUDENT WINS THIRD PLACE IN BOISE STATE STOCK MARKET GAME NATIONAL WRITING COMPETITION

Nicole Bulcher of Twin Falls has won third place and a prize package in the Fall 2004 InvestWrite National Essay Competition. InvestWrite is a teacher-designed writing component and essential tool of The Stock Market Game™ program that provides students a way to demonstrate what they are learning in the classroom. The Stock Market Game gives students the chance to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in a real-time portfolio while learning important economic and financial concepts.  InvestWrite fosters achievement in academic areas such as mathematics, language arts, social studies, economics, and finance, reinforces real life decision-making skills, and instills an understanding of the need to save and invest.

Nicole, daughter of Mark and MarJean Bulcher of Twin Falls, is a 12th grade student of Twin Falls High School Personal Finance teacher Jim Alcaro, who uses the InvestWrite Essay Competition to build a bridge between classroom learning and the real world. Prizes, sponsored by the Securities Industry Association, include laptop computers for Nicole and Mr. Alcaro, a classroom subscription to the Wall Street Journal and pizza party, a school trophy, and a parents’ recognition award. The Stock Market Game™ program is sponsored each semester by the Idaho Council on Economic Education and hosted by Boise State University colleges of Business and Education.
