The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)
- Students wishing to apply to the MBA, MSA, or MSAT programs must have a minimum GMAT score of 500.
- Students applying to the MSA or MSAT program need not take the GMAT if the applicant possesses a current professional accountancy license (CPA, CMA or CIA).
- A GMAT score of 600 or more will waive the “two years of significant work experience” requirement for MBA applicants.
Students applying for Financial Aid and for Fall enrollment should take the GMAT in January. All other Fall applicants should take the GMAT in March. For Spring enrollment, students should take the GMAT in August. For Summer enrollment, students should take the GMAT in January.
Information and registration is available online through the official GMAT website, www.mba.com or by calling 1-800-GMAT NOW. The Boise State University school code is 4018. The GMAT costs $250 and is available throughout the year at various testing centers. Studying and preparing for the exam is highly recommended. GMAT preparation classes are available through the Center for Professional Development.
COBE Computer Placement Exam
All MBA students must possess basic Microsoft Excel skills and will be required to take a computer competency exam prior to enrolling in MBA courses. The exam is the equivalent to the ITM 105 course, Spreadsheet Topics.
The exams are given in the B209 Computer Lab of the Business & Economics building. Information scheduling and fees for this exam can be found on the ITSCM Placement Exam page.
Please bring your test result printout to the COBE Graduate Studies Office, B307, when completed. The department will not sign an override to allow class registration before the exam is taken. The exam is offered throughout fall, spring, and summer semesters. Students must pass the exam with a score of 70% or above before class registration will be allowed.
COMPASS Academic Placement Exam – Math
The COMPASS Academic Placement Math Exam is required for MBA students whose GMAT Quantitative score is less than 32. Students need to a score of 61 or better on the college algebra section of the math placement exam. The exams will be administered in Room 115 of the Technical Services Building, 1464 University Drive. Please call ahead to make an appointment and identify the specific exam(s) you will be taking at 208-426-2762. An exam fee of $5.00 (cash or money order) is payable at the time of the exam.

Business Essentials Equivalency Exams
All students may either elect to take the MBA Business essentials courses or take an exam to waive out of any or all of those courses. A score of 80% is required on each exam to qualify for a course waiver, and students are allowed to sit twice for each exam. This policy ensures students admitted to the advanced courses have a consistent level of knowledge.
The exams will be administered in Room 115 of the Technical Services Building, 1464 University Drive. Please call ahead to make an appointment and identify the specific exam(s) you will be taking at 208-426-2762. An exam fee of $15.00 (cash or money order) per exam is payable at the time of testing. Two forms of ID must be shown. Students may use a calculator. Each exam should take approximately 1 hour, but students have up to 2 hours to complete each exam..
