Areas of Expertise:
- While his interests span many areas, Dr. Price’s core areas of expertise currently include:
- Issues in global supply chain management in transitional and developing economies;
- Materials management (about which he has co-authored two texts in Europe);
- The nature of relationships in the logistics chain, especially as they are related to psychological type theory; and
- Logistics and management education design and delivery.
University, Professional, Public Service:
Dr. Price played a central role in designing the Masters of Science in Global Supply Chain Management program and the related undergraduate Logistics major when he first joined the University of Alaska Anchorage in 1999.
He is currently designing the new Associates Degree and Certificate Program in Logistics Operations.
Professional Affiliations:
Dr. Price is a member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, the Association for Psychological Type, the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (U.K.), the Institute of Logistics (U.K.), and the Irish Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
Dr. Price is also an Associate Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management and a Past National Council Member of the Institute of Materials Handling (Ireland).
Scholarship/Creative Activity:
Dr. Price’s research and creative activity includes:
- Scholarly research and publications in supply chain management in transitional economies, including a recent article in The Journal of Marketing Channels on the power of third party distributors in Kazakhstan.
- Writing a series of logistics chain instructional texts and supplemental teaching materials, the first of which, Warehouse Management and Inventory Control, will be published in 2006.
- Current green-field research in personality type and the logistics chain.
- Creation of an ongoing series of whitepapers on issues in strategic management for federal contractors.
Honors, Awards, Certificates, Licenses:
- Award of MBTI Qualification awarded by the Center for the Applications of Psychological Type in 2004 recognizing Dr. Price as a qualified administrator and interpreter of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator.
- Award of MMTIC Qualification awarded by the Center for the Applications of Psychological Type in 2004 recognizing Dr. Price as a qualified administrator and interpreter of the Murphy Meisgeier Type Indicator for Children.
- Competitive Research Grant awarded by the Anchorage Small Business Development Center in 2002 to conduct research entitled, Third Party Logistics Service Providers and Alaska’s Small Business Market.
- Honorary Ph.D. awarded by the Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economics, and Strategic Planning in 1999 for “exemplary contribution toward the development of the Institute and its MBA program.”
- Associate Fellowship awarded by the Singapore Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management in 1991 for work in establishing a joint Diploma in Purchasing and Materials Management between the Institute and the University of North London.
- Certificate of Professional Competence in Materials Management awarded by the Irish Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management in 1986 for the thesis, Stores Management, Inventory Control, Transport, and Distribution Curriculum Design. (The Institute awards one certificate per year and asks the recipient to write a thesis.)
- Dr. Price has also earned a series of professional diplomas and certificates, which include: Diploma in Computers in Education (Trinity College, Dublin); Diploma in Hospital Administration (Irish Institute of Hospital Administration); Diploma in Materials Handling (Materials Handling Institute, Dublin); Diploma in Purchasing and Materials Management (Irish Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management); Advanced Certificate in Materials Management (Irish Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management); and Certificate in Storekeeping (Irish Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management).
