Q. Do I have to apply to be accepted to the College of Business
& Economics?
A. No. If you wish to declare a Business major, and you are currently
attending BSU, you need to turn in a Student Information Update to the
Registrar’s office. Forms are available in the Student Services office
in B117. If you are new to BSU you may declare your major when applying or
registering for classes.
Q. Do I need to apply for upper division in the College of Business
& Economics?
A. There is no formal application for upper division in the College of
Business & Economics. When you have completed 58 credits, taken
prerequisite classes, and passed with a C or better, you may take upper
division courses.

Advising
Q. Is there any way that I can receive credit for a transfer course
that the BSU transcript evaluators say does not transfer?
A. Yes, in many cases that may be possible. Pick up the Academic
Adjustment form for transfer credit in the Student Services office B117,
(or in some cases, the office of your declared major). Please ask to
ensure that you obtain and complete the correct version depending upon
individual circumstances. Take the Academic Adjustment form, course
syllabus or book, and a transcript showing your grade for the course you
wish to transfer. Be aware that requirements may differ between
departments.
Q. How do I get an advisor in the College of Business &
Economics?
A. Freshmen, Sophomores, and new transfer students, who are NOT
Economics majors, see the College of Business & Economics Student
Services Center located in B117 (426-3859). All Economics majors,
regardless of class standing, are seen in the Economics Department located
in Room B311 (426-3351); please see Economics
information below. Networking, Operations,
& Information Systems Majors, please see information below.
Upper division students go to the department of their major for advising.
It is recommended that all non-Economics majors, pick up a “Junior Year”
To Do list in the Student Services Center (B117) before choosing an
advisor. On the front of the sheet are things you need to start on as a
Junior. On the backside is a list of the departments and how each handles
upper division advising.
Q. Where do I go for an advisor?
A. Economics majors should go to the Economics Department in B311. Other
majors: in general, freshmen, sophomores, and new transfer students
(excluding Economics majors) should go to the Student Services Department
in B117. Upper classmen (juniors and seniors) should go to the department
of their major.
Q. I already have a degree, where do I go for advising?
A. If you already have a four year degree and are returning for a
second degree, you will need to go to the department of the major you have
chosen for your second associates or baccalaureate degree. They will
complete a second degree checklist which will tell you what courses you
will need to take.
Q. I want to get a minor. What do I need to do?
A. General Business Minor applications are available in the College of
Business and Economics, Student Services Center, Room B117. Fill out this
form, return it to Room B117, and, when the application has been approved,
a copy will be mailed to you. To declare a specific minor (ex. Accountancy
Minor, Economics Minor, Marketing Minor, Finance Minor, etc.), contact the
department offering the minor for any application form or process that may
be required. Be aware that not all departments require an application and
some may require an advisory meeting to work out the required
curriculum. See the Degree
Requirements page for course requirements.
Q. May I take BusStat, CIS, OperMgt, and NtComm courses concurrent
with their listed prerequisites?
A. No. Prerequisites are there for a pedagogical reason. Certainly
there are exceptions to each rule. If you feel you are truly the exception
to a prerequisite course, you may contact the Networking, Operations,
& Information Systems department with written documentation stating
the exception and the Department will determine if it is
acceptable. (Note: Types of unacceptable prerequisite exceptions
would include: 1) my schedule does not allow me to take the prerequisite
this semester; 2) I want to graduate by ___, so I need to take these two
classes concurrently.)

As an Economics major, you are encouraged to come directly to the
Economics Department for all advising and program curriculum questions.
The Department has an open door policy so you do not need to call ahead to
make an appointment. When you arrive in the Department, simply request a
meeting with an adviser in your chosen field of interest and, almost
always, you will be able to meet with a faculty member at that time.
If you have a specific advisor in mind, you are encouraged to check
their office hours either posted at our website, http://ec.boisestate.edu,
or on the front door of the Department and plan your visit to the
Department during those hours.
Prior to placement with an advisor, you will be asked what your
selected major field of study is. Your choices are: Economics
BA (International Option), Economics
BA (Social Science Option), Economics
BA (Quantitative Option), Economics
BA (Secondary Education), Bachelor
of Business Administration (BBA) Economics Emphasis, or Economics
Minor.

Q. Who can I talk to for more information?
You can contact Renee Anchustegui in the Graduate Studies office at
(208)426-1126 or 1(800)824-7017 ext.1126. E-mail ranchust@boisestate.edu.
Q. Is the deadline for applying the absolute deadline?
A. The application deadline is a priority deadline for acceptance into the
graduate programs. Applications will still be accepted after the deadline,
but students may be required to wait until the following semester to begin
classes.
The Business Graduate Studies office encourages all potential students to
apply as early as possible. As a general rule, these deadlines
apply (however,
it is strongly recommended that you confirm
with our office for your particular curriculum) "Common" Deadlines:
March 1, for enrollment in the summer,
& June 1, for enrollment in the fall, & October 1,
for enrollment in the spring. Please note that application deadlines
can vary for school years to adjust for non-working business days. Again,
confirmation is your best solution here.
Q. What are the requirements for acceptance into COBE graduate
programs?
In order to be accepted into the Masters of Business Administration
program at Boise State, a student must posses a bachelor's degree from an
accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum
GMAT score of 500. A working knowledge of Excel, Word and Access is also
necessary. See the Graduate
Admissions page.
Students with English as a second language (ESL) must score a minimum
of 587/240 on the TOEFL
exam or its equivalent. ESL students must also take and pass an English
proficiency exam at BSU before taking any graduate courses beyond their
first semester. (Foreign students only.) See the International
Graduate Admissions page.
Please see the Graduate
Admissions page for more information.
Q. What tests do I have to take to be admitted?
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a standardized test
administrated by the Graduate Management Admission Council. The GMAT is
neither affiliated with nor administrated by BSU. Information, including a
detailed description of the test content, policies, and implementation, is
available online at http://www.gmat.org.
The cost of the GMAT is subject to change and varies throughout the
country, but usually is around $150-$180. In the Boise area, GMAT testing
is performed at the Sylvan Learning Center, 208/322-3555. Extended Studies
is currently offering prep courses for the GRE and GMAT. More information
can be gained at the Extended
Studies website.
Students may also be required to take the COBE Computer Placement Exams
that test their skill level in word processing, spreadsheet applications,
and database applications (Note: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and
Microsoft Access are typically used for exam purposes). Computer Placement
Exams are held regularly throughout the semester at a cost of $16 - $17
per session. More information about placement exams can be obtained here.
Questions concerning waiving this requirement should be directed to the
Graduate Studies Office at 208/426-1126.
Q. What else do I turn in with my application?
In order to speed the application process, it is recommended that
potential students gather all materials and turn them in at once. Be sure
to include two letters of recommendation, preferably one from an academic
source, however two professional references are acceptable, transcripts
from all institutions attended, GMAT scores (raw), application fee, essay,
vitae, and application.
For more information regarding the graduate college or to apply online

Electronic versions of the graduate catalogs are now available, MBA,
MSA/MSAT,

A. ALL graduate students, not just MBA students, are required to
subscribe to the MBA Listserv as soon as their application has been turned
in. The MBA Listserv is an automated email group that the program
administrators/faculty use to notify graduate students of class changes,
social events, delays, or emergencies.
In addition to the subscribing to the MBA Listserv, all current and
potential MBA students are required to fill out the MBA Course Planner.
Registration may be delayed or denied until the completion of these two
requirements. For instructions on joining the listserv, follow this link.
Q. How many of my credits can be transferred from my current school?
Students currently enrolled in other graduate programs are usually
eligible to transfer up to 9 credits that may apply toward their graduate
degree at BSU. Transferring of credits is dependent on a variety of
factors, including course content and grade received, and is determined on
a case-by-case basis. Potential students should contact the Business
