The purpose of the Boise State Center for Entrepreneurship is to develop business owners in Idaho. Where is the growth in business? It’s in new small and medium size businesses. Who operates the majority of these businesses? An entrepreneur. The Boise State Center for Entrepreneurship seeks to help Boise State students Idaho residents launch and develop businesses as a means of economic development for the Treasure Valley and the state of Idaho.
The Boise State Center for Entrepreneurship aims to become a central point of education programs, training, community outreach, and information for people interested in entrepreneurship, owning their own business and expanding existing businesses. Through a mix of academic programs, training programs, research, technology commercialization efforts, community outreach programs and information portals, the Boise State Center for Entrepreneurship will become a leading resource for developing business owners in Idaho.
Academic programs: Existing academic programs will be strengthened and expanded. Planned new program features will include a fully recognized entrepreneurship major, a university-wide minor in entrepreneurship, increased graduate and undergraduate course offerings on entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship and social entrepreneurship. Also, courses will be designed to facilitate cross-university collaborations. Academic courses will emphasize working with entrepreneurs on actual business projects.
Training programs: Various certificate and non-credit training programs can be offered to the community to provide information on entrepreneurship and business ownership. This is a potential source of revenue generation.
Research: Currently, there are several researchers who have published or are currently researching and publishing in entrepreneurship related areas. This effort would seek to support future related research projects.
Technology commercialization and revenue realization: The Boise State Center for Entrepreneurship works for the Boise State University Technology Transfer Office on developing an effective process for the development and commercialization of university derived technology and intellectual property. This effort seeks to bring to together groups to help commercialize technology and realize royalty revenue and equity participation in new venture start-ups.
Community outreach programs: Through various partnerships with interested organizations, this effort seeks to support, facilitate, encourage and develop entrepreneurship, venture start-ups and business ownership throughout the state.
Information portals: With increasing interest in entrepreneurship, venture start-ups and business ownership comes an increased need for information and support resources. This effort creates a web-based information resource for interested people, both inside and outside the university community.
The Boise State Center for Entrepreneurship will become the central point for all things related to entrepreneurship and business ownership in Idaho.
