Mark Buchanan Earns Global Business Professional Certification

Mark Buchanan,  professor of international business and management, recently earned the distinction of Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP) with nearly a perfect score . In preparation for the exam, Buchanan participated in a training program sponsored by the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) through a Small Business Administration (SBA) grant. Buchanan will serve as a primary faculty member and trainer for the new International Trade Certificate Program (ITCP). The ITCP will be offered through COBE’s International Business Programs and in coordination with several partners.

The new interdisciplinary program will serve as a professional credential-demonstrating competency in international trade. It will also prepare participants for the NASBITE CGBP exam that Buchanan recently passed — a benchmark for professionals in the field. Buchanan is the first of four COBE faculty members to sit for the exam. These faculty will join the ranks of international trade assistance providers around the State of Idaho who also recently became CGBP-qualified. The ITC program will help meet the challenges of today’s globally competitive business environment.

Buchanan is a licensed attorney and has lived and worked in the U.S., China, Australia, Canada, Thailand, Vietnam and Spain. Prior to coming to Boise in 1996 he was a tenured member of the Faculty of Law, University of New South Wales, Sydney Australia. He has twice been awarded overseas Fulbright Professorships. Buchanan has taught courses in international trade and investment law and has long focused his research interests on Corporate Social Responsibility in the international context. He was a member of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to the ISO 26000 Guidance on Social Responsibility project and has also worked with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) in Amsterdam. He is a member of the International Law Sections of both the Idaho and American Bar Associations.
