John Bieter, History, and Nina Ray, Marketing and Finance and International Business, jointly presented “Dilution vs. Dancing: Scots-Irish and Basques in the American West” at the Ulster American Heritage Symposium in Omagh, Northern Ireland on June 30.
They compared the two cultural groups in terms of their migration patterns and modern day economic impact on America. They also discussed the ongoing peace processes in Northern Ireland and the Basque Country, of particular relevance given that the Queen was in Northern Ireland as part of the jubilee celebrations and participated in a historic handshake and meeting with the former commander of the Irish Republican Army.
