Larry Sands Passes Away

Larry Sands, longtime network administrator in the College of Business and Economics, died June 2 at the age of 67. To honor his wishes, there will be no memorial service.

lawrence-f-sands002Sands had a distinguished career in the Air Force, retiring as a technical sergeant after poly peripheral neuropathy forced an honorable discharge in 1972. The doctors said he would be in a wheelchair by his 36th birthday, but it wasn’t until he experienced a severe leg injury at age 60 that he was confined to a wheelchair.

Despite his challenges, he fully landscaped his acre of land, rebuilt an Austen-Healey sports car, enjoyed camping and woodcutting, panned for gold and returned to school. Sands received his degree in computer science from Boise State in 1984 and went to work for his alma mater. He recently celebrated his 25th anniversary at Boise State.

Sands had planned to retire from Boise State at the end of the month. The college is planning to create a plaque in his honor. Read more about his life and sign an online guest book here.
