COBE Accountancy Home

Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Accountancy’s website. We offer accounting programs leading to both undergraduate and graduate degrees. At the undergraduate level, our students can choose BA, BS and BBA degrees. We also offer an Accountancy minor, and either an Internal Audit emphasis (specifically for Accountancy majors) or an Internal Audit minor (for other majors). At the graduate level, we offer an MS degree in accounting, with the option of a taxation emphasis. Our degree programs, along with all others offered within the College of Business and Economics, are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The AACSB is the premier organization monitoring institutions offering business education in the U.S. and abroad, and our association with this prestigious organization reflects a commitment by Boise State University, the College of Business and Economics, and the Department of Accountancy to excellence and continuous improvement in our programs.

Approximately 100 students graduate each year with accounting degrees from BSU. While some of our graduates pursue careers outside the Treasure Valley, the majority choose to live and work in the Boise area. One notable feature of Boise’s vibrant business community is the diversity of local employment options. Without leaving town, our graduates can find career opportunities with large national, regional, or local public accounting firms, corporations and businesses of varying size, and governmental entities, among others.

Boise’s thriving business community also provides numerous opportunities for internships. The same companies that hire our graduates readily provide our current students with paid opportunities to gain valuable practical experience while they are still in school. Many of our students take advantage of these opportunities to put their classroom learning to work before completing their degrees.

The Accountancy Department is home to the Zeta Psi chapter of Beta Alpha Psi. Student members of this national honorary accounting fraternity are given many opportunities for personal development and public service. In addition, Beta Alpha Psi’s programs provide our students opportunities to learn more about alternative careers and to network with accounting professionals. Quite often, Boise State’s chapter is recognized by the national organization as a superior chapter, its highest recognition.

The primary focus of our faculty is delivering first-class instruction to our students. Supporting activities include research and scholarly activity and university and community service. All of our accounting faculty hold graduate degrees from well-known institutions and all are CPAs. Most also have extensive accounting experience.

I would be happy to answer your questions about our programs. Please contact me if you would like more information.
