It will be held at 6:05 pm to 7:00 pm, in the Foote Room of the Student Union building (2nd floor) it is located a bit in the back so look out for our signs. . This is a special informational meeting about the Society of Human Resources Management Pacific West Student Conference. See the details below:

Who? We can send a team of up to six students to compete with schools from California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington
Where? Pepperdine University, West Los Angeles, CA
When? April 20-21 (Friday Saturday)
Why? To represent Boise State University, network, show off your “HR Smarts”, learn something (educational sessions last year included representatives from Microsoft and Starbucks), a trip to California, the reasons are endless.
If you are interested come Thursday we will be discussing SHRM, the conference and more. A Target representative will also be giving a short presentation on some of their job and internship opportunities. Also snacks will be provided!

2/2 Foote Room, 2/16 Boyington Room, 3/15 Foote Room, 4/5 Foote Room, 4/26 Fisher Room (all are located on the 2nd floor of the SUB)

Then one of our biggest events every year is attending the Society of Human Resources Management Student Conference. This year it is being held on April 20-21, 2012 at Pepperdine Univeristy in West Los Angeles, CA. Most of the expenses to attend the conference are paid by the student organization/BSU. The conference is made up of two elements, one is the educational sessions with HR Professionals, last year’s speakers included professionals from Microsoft and Starbucks. The second element is the HR Games which is a case study competition, a team of up to 6 students are given a situation and the team has 4 hours to analyze the case and put together a presentation and report. This is a great opportunity to show off your “HR smarts”, network with HR professionals, and represent BSU. The practices leading up to the competition are held during the day on Saturday. If you are interested you can e-mail us and we’ll give you more of the details.

Fall 2011 Schedule

The next HRA meeting is Wednesday November 16th Cataldo Room Student Union at 6:05 p.m..  Guest speaker will be Pat Otte Vice President of HR from Micron.  Pat will be speaking about Culture as  Competitive Differentiator.

Vickie Coale, a Boise State University Career Center representative and a Human Resource Association of the Treasure Valley (HRATV) member, will be speaking to the HRA about resumes, the job search process and how to network. This is a great chance to have some time with a job expert, so come with questions! This meeting will be held in the Cataldo Room (2nd floor of the SUB) on Wednesday, October 19th, at 6:05 pm to 7:00 pm.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday October 5th, 2011, at 6:05 pm to 7:00 pm in the Ah Fong Room (it is by the art gallery on the 2nd floor of the SUB, so if you enter the door facing the new bus ramps and go up the left hand stairs, and then turn to your right its the room in the corner, terrible location, I know but thats the one they gave us :) let me know if you need further instruction). This meeting will feature the VP of HR and the Program Development Manager from Scentsy, Inc. Scentsy Inc. is based here in Boise and it maunfactures and sells safe, wickless alternatives to scented candles, it has quickly grown into one of the most successful direct selling companies!

We would like to congratulate Krystle Nitu who was elected Merit Award and Achievement Officer, at our last HRA meeting. We are still looking to fill the positions of Chief Operating Officer and Director of Recruitment and Activities. We will most likely do future elections online. For the Director of Recruiting and Activities, if you cannot make the meetings this semester, but are still interested in this position you can still run!

One of our HRA members, Jaymie Lint, wanted to pass on that there are some HR jobs offered on Jobungo and one is an internship with guaranteed fulltime employment with American Express (although you have to be going into a master’s program), so check it out! Thanks for the tip, Jaymie!
Hope all is well and let me know if anyone wants to run for Chief Operating Officer or Director of Recruitment and Activties! Also if you have any questions feel free to let us know!

Our first official meeting will be on Wednesday September 14 from 6:05 pm-7:00 pm of the Ah Fong Room of the Second Floor of the Student Union Building.  This meeting will be specifically for elections, although we will also discuss upcoming events and other ways to get involved with the HRA!
