2009 Spring Economic Turnaround Initiative Project Examples

The following projects are examples of business solutions offered by COBE. This list is just a sampling; many more are offered through class projects, internships, faculty consulting, and our Business Help Centers. Please call to find out more information. 208-426-4950.

Accounting

Financial Planning
Each student does a thorough personal financial plan with a client. (client goals, insurance, investments, income tax issues, retirement planning education, gifts, estates, personal financial statements and cash-flow budgets, etc.)

Business Tax Returns
Business tax returns (partnerships, C corporations or S Corporations). More complex tax returns will be incorporated in the classroom.

Tax Research Problem
Student teams will research a tax problem and present findings to the client.

Marketing

Marketing Consulting (available after 3/23/2009)
Students will analyze, diagnose and make recommendations about complex marketing problems.

Marketing Consulting
Marketing problem definition, situational analysis, identification and evaluation of alternative solutions, decision criteria, presentation of a “best” solution set, and programmatic design to accomplish desired objectives.

Professional Selling Consulting
Students will evaluate salesperson’s selling skills, habits and techniques after spending a day shadowing them.

Microeconomics

“Pricing with Market Power” and Monopolistic Competition
Consulting on price discrimination, intertemporal price discrimination, peak-load pricing, two-part tariff, and product bundling. (April 6th – May 4th)

Environmental/Natural Resource Economics Consulting (available Fall 2009)
Projects, internships, guest lectures, etc. on problems such as air quality in the Treasure Valley, water supply and demand, transportation expenditures, forestry issues, fishery issues, recreation issues, urban growth issues, electricity pricing and supply, renewable resources, and non-renewable resources.

Human Resource Management
Employee Handbooks, Compensation Plans, Volunteer Handbooks, and Training Manuals (needed by 2/25/2009 & 4/20/2009)

Information Technology

Emerging Information Technology Consulting
A small seminar-oriented class will help organizations evaluate an emerging information technology, whether they provide it or use it, and plan for its possible deployment.

Quality Management
Team Projects are to improve operations by analyzing a company process and to propose improvement that will have an impact of this company’s efficiency and/or quality output.

Business Ethics
Students are conducting research on businesses and organizations in the area (+ some national/multinats), with regards to:

  • Defining Boise’s Future- 
  • Corporate Social Responsibility and its Role in Today’s Business Environment

Commercial Law
Students will undertake projects on legal issues, contracts, sales, negotiable instruments, secure transactions, etc.
